The History

Yukekalatubby

The original Chickasaw landowner in the area; Yukekalatubby or Euclatubba is featured in the center of the mural.

Bison

Bison are native to the Chickasaw homeland and used the Natchez Trace as a bison trail. According to Chicksaw.tv, "animals like the bison carved the Trace out in search of salt licks. Native Americans would go deeper into the wild and make the Trace what it is today."

Mockingbird & Magnolia

Both of these are the official state bird and tree of our state.

The Artist

A graduate from the renowned Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM, and Oklahoma City University, Brent Greenwood serves as the Fine Arts Director for the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma. Over the past 25 years, his work has been exhibited across North America and abroad in Paris, France. Brent is of Chickasaw and Ponca heritage and because of this distinct cultural background, he expresses his narratives through both the southeastern and plains tribal lens. His artistic influences are deeply rooted in graffiti and traditional Native art aesthetics, while combining elements of pop and modern art. Brent's paintings have been featured in publications such as First American Art Magazine, Southwest Art, and Oklahoma Today, as well as receiving numerous accolades and awards. In 2023, Brent received Oklahoma City University’s Petree College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Alumni Award, and in 2024, Red Earth’s Honored One. Brent’s artistic passion goes beyond the studio as he is regularly requested to make arts and cultural presentations, perform “live paintings,” and public mural work. He enjoys every opportunity to share his experiences and the artistic process, and hopes it encourages the next generation of artists.
